As a matter of fact, iPhone 3G was came to market On July 11, 2008 a year earlier than its counterpart iPhone 3Gs which got in on June 8, 2009.
Generally, iPhone 3GS is an improved version of iPhone 3G which means that there are significant differences between the two iPhone versions.
Among these include the following:
-The iPhone 3GS added a digital compass.
-iPhone 3Gs comes with faster processor than counterpart 3G.
-Storage capacity: 3G supports 8/16GB built-in capacity while 3GS supports 16/32GB.
-One year's difference and Improved technologies come in handy with improved battery consumption, therefore higher talk time, music and video play time and battery life in iPhone 3GS than in iPhone 3G.
-There is only one camera on both of these variations of iPhone whose only difference is in resolution ie iPhone 3G has 2MP camera while iPhone 3GS has a 3.15MP camera .
-Inbuilt Ram of 3G is 128 MB while 3GS has 256MB Ram
-The weight of 3G (133g) is 2 grams less than that of 3GS (135g) while the dimensions of the two seem to be identical.
At a glance the two iPhone phones may look exactly the same, albeit there are some differences as listed and posted here to help resolve the many questions raised on this same issue.
